FACE OF VARSITY IS ANNOUNCED

3-6-2009

The student-focused pub chain launched a national online competition in August to find an undiscovered model who would become the next Face of Varsity.

Almost 1000 Varsity customers entered the competition by sending photos of themselves by email and text to the Varsity website, www.varsitybars.com. From there, more than 195,000 people voted by text and online for their favourite photos of the models across three casting sessions. A panel of judges then made the final decision on the winner and five runners up.

Carly Knight was selected as the overall winner and was awarded a one-year modelling contract with The Casting Suite, a talent and modelling agency, and the five runners up have each won a portfolio shoot and studio session.

Head of Marketing for Barracuda Group, Myles Doran, said: “This competition has really engaged our customers with the Varsity brand. It has been good fun and that’s what Varsity bars are all about. We promoted the Face of Varsity competition through our website and 39 nationwide bars, so to get such a high level of entrants and almost 200,000 website votes, has been a fantastic result.”

Managing Director for The Casting Suite, Paul Booth, said: “We are delighted with the results - Carly was also a finalist on the last series of Britain’s Next Top Model and has the potential to be a great model.” Carly had her photo shoot at The Casting Suite this week.

The Crazy, Sexy, Cool Varsity campaign offers customers who have purchased a £1 Varsity VCard discounts and online offers from its eight retails partners, including Blockbuster, EA Games and Dominos, and also has great deals on selected drinks in its 39 nationwide bars.
